Biography
Andrew Levitas is a New York-born multidisciplinary artist celebrated for his innovative fusion of contemporary art, photography, and sculpture. Known for his Metalwork Photography series, he transfers images onto transparencies mounted on interlocking metal panels, drawing inspiration from Abstract Expressionism. His work is featured in prestigious collections such as 10 Downing Street and the National Museum Wales, and he is one of the few American artists to exhibit at the Louvre's Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
Levitas also creates Environmental Paintings using organic materials and homemade pigments, reflecting themes of isolation and artificiality in modern life, particularly in Los Angeles. His artistic approach is often compared to John Chamberlain and the Post-War New York School, and he has held solo exhibitions at renowned venues like Phillips Berkeley Square in London and Phillips de Pury & Co. in Manhattan.
Beyond visual arts, Levitas is a filmmaker and founder of Metalwork Pictures, with credits including Lullaby and Affluenza. His films explore similar themes as his artworks, with Lullaby premiering at MoMA and featuring actors like Amy Adams and Richard Jenkins. Based in New York and London, Levitas is also a professor at NYU and a patron of The Wilderness Foundation.
