Biography
Jim Shaw (American, b.1952) is an artist whose style is characterized by a wide variety of visual imagery using all kinds of media. Since the 1970s, Shaw has tapped into American culture, finding inspiration in comics, novels, rock albums, protest posters, paintings found in thrift stores, and advertisements.
Shaw uses his own life and especially his unconscious as a source of inspiration. Taking on a personal, mundane, and eerie side, Shaw's works feature images of friends, family, world events, pop culture, and alternate realities all at once.
