Girls with spheres
James Cochran excels in the art of portraiture. This series of paintings presents characters, famous or anonymous, surrounded by spheres. The street artist explains the origin of this project in “Jimmy C, in the heart of the street”, OpusDélits collection published by Criteria editions. “The spheres are a logical progression of my pointillist technique where the dots become large, first becoming circles and then spheres. I began to imagine the subject in space, composing it of small spheres like atoms. The larger spheres are like planets and my work explores the theme of human connection to the atomic and interplanetary universe.”
The portraits
James Cochran pays tribute to famous people by painting them on the walls of specific cities, thus creating a link with historical, artistic or sporting events: Anne Frank in Berlin, Usain Bolt during the London Olympics, Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona or David Bowie in Brixton.
We find in this portrait of the actress the particularities that contribute to the style of this extraordinary painter. A mixture influenced by the techniques of pointillism, drip painting, or aboriginal painting. But also through references to the history of art, from impressionism to graffiti, via social realism. We are particularly marked by the work of the juxtaposition of colors which recalls that of Seurat or Pissarro. Juxtaposed touches of color will create new colors in the eye of the viewer. Above all, as with the Impressionists, the form is not rendered by the drawing and its outline. But well by the touches of color.

James Cochran is an Australian artist who lives in London. In 2002 he got his Master of Visual Arts from the University of South Australia. In 1997 he graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, University of South Australia (completed with first class Honours in November 1997).
His two interests in graffiti and oil painting converged, leading to the development of Cochran's signature aerosol pointillist style; portraits or urban landscapes painted entirely from blobs of spray paint. This technique developed into what he called the 'drip paintings' and the 'scribble paintings', composed of layers of coloured drips or energetic lines to form vibrant and poetic cityscapes and portraits.
The style that he created can be called neo-pointillism. He made his most famous paintings in the biggest cities of the world: New York, London, Paris, Rio, Berlin, Istanbul but also in cities in Belgium, Norway and, of course, Australia.

Can I negotiate the price of an artwork?
For some artworks, you can negotiate the price. If the price of the work is negotiable, you have a “Make an offer” button under the “Buy this work” one.
To submit your offer, you must make a payment of the desired amount. Your offer will then be forwarded to the gallery, which reserves the right to accept or reject it. If your offer is accepted, it means that your order is confirmed by the gallery and they will prepare the artwork for shipment. Where can I have my order delivered?

Return and cancellation
