Jean-Christophe Couradin, a five-dimensional hymn, 2016
André Bernold, writer

Since he stopped making boxes, which articulated the interior and the exterior, Jean-Christophe Couradin tirelessly devoted himself to research, to the production of volumes and surfaces that he installed on the border of four types of spaces immersed in three-dimensional space: optical, kinetic, haptic, mathematical.
His sculptures follow each other, but also give movement to everything around them, especially the large bronzes, which is why people want them at home. Critics have pointed it out, it is even more striking that they irresistibly invite to touch; but they also concretize fundamental situations in topology. Hence the dumbfounded attraction they exert, and the fascination. We certainly think of Brâncusi; but also to Leonardo da Vinci, for the "turbine" side of many shapes, or "vortices", even if it is often a vortex in place, frozen, that it is.
Here is a man who suddenly succeeds, with his hands that must be said to be wonderful, many things at the same time; without counting the intrinsic splendor of the woods which he uses as much as he has, of which the veins and the grain, the density, the color, the nuances, the extreme rarity also from now on, it must be admitted, add to this object very pure its fifth essential dimension, that of hyletic glory, from the word hyle which means matter but originally, in ancient Greek, very significantly, wood, paradigm of all matter. This is all very, very remarkable.
We can never say enough that Jean-Christophe Couradin is truly an exceptional artist in the horizon of what is being done today. Also Jean-Christophe Couradin enjoys a secret glory, the real one: his great art has everywhere its affiliates, initiates, seasoned connoisseurs, assiduous collectors, practitioners, instrumentalists, musicians: we play with the fingers the sonata or the symphony of a sculpture by Jean-Christophe Couradin. And we live with it. Rare are the artists who summon such intimacy.
