Ruben Ortiz Torres is a Mexican photographer, painter, sculptor and director. Ortiz-Torres who is considered as one of the today leading Mexican artists and as an innovator in the 1980s of a specifically Mexican form of postmodernism.
Over the past decade, he has produced a collection of artworks in a wide range of media - extended photo series, modified readymade series, one feature film, several videos (including three in 3D), large-scale video installations scale, series of paintings, sculptures, personalized cars and machines, photocollages, performances and organized exhibitions.
Since 1982, Ortiz-Torres' work has been presented in 25 solo exhibitions, more than 100 group exhibitions in the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and more than 50 projections of his films and video works. Personalization characterizes the art of Rubén Ortiz Torres in almost all media and offers an alternative way to tackle the problems of globalization if at the heart of the current New World Order and the various responses, sometimes conflicting, to this new form of Euro -American dominance.
The artist's artworks can be seen in major institutions: Brooklyn Museum, Met New York, MoMa New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Tate Modern, London.
