Nigentz developed a passion for images at a very early age by practicing photography. He then became interested in the image as a narrative vector of meaning and symbols. Living in Grenoble until the age of 18, he arrives in Paris to study, then completes his academic education in Los Angeles.
Through his portraits, he essentially works on identity and self-representation: body on stage, show and fantasies through costumes, make-up and masks.
Stéphane Nigentz is currently working on a series on masks, on our relationship to reality, the hidden and the beyond. This series ranges from fetishist masks in Parisian underground parties to ancestral masks from West Africa.
