Biography
Born in Novosibirsk, Marat Abishev is a multidisciplinary artist whose journey spans academic painting, airbrushing, street art, and abstract canvas works. He graduated from the Institute of Arts at OmSPU in 2009 and quickly found a passion for public art and murals.
Artistic Journey:
Marat's early career was marked by an interest in airbrushing, where he honed precision techniques in one of Moscow's leading studios. This technical foundation evolved in 2012 when he began experimenting with aerosol paints. Combining the refined control of airbrushing with the raw, unpredictable effects of spray paint, he developed a signature style that balances precision with spontaneity.
Marat spent years as a successful commercial artist across the CIS, completing large-scale murals and working with renowned companies such as RedBull (2013), Disney, Marvel (2014), Yota, Kaspersky, and Nintendo (2015–2018). His mural "Two" near the Omsk railway station (2019) was featured in the catalog "100 Murals of Russia."
Shift to Abstract Art:
In 2019, Marat began exploring abstract art, shifting from narrative murals to creating canvases that reflect his inner journey. Working outdoors with spray paint on canvas, he embraced the freedom and unpredictability of post-graffiti techniques. His works are meditative explorations, blending technical expertise with an intuitive process, often inspired by psychology, philosophy, and human emotions.
Notable Contributions:
- Founder and organizer of the Omsk Street Art Festival (2016–2019).
- Participant in numerous festivals in Moscow, Omsk, Novosibirsk, and Yekaterinburg.
- Developed the concept of the "World of Raccoons," a series of narrative illustrations that convey his values and ideas, becoming a central theme of his work since 2021.
Marat's abstract paintings invite viewers into a personal dialogue, evoking introspection and emotional resonance, while his broader work continues to explore the transformative power of art in public and private spaces.
