Gulnara Fatullaeva's art explores the inner world, trauma, and dissociation through paintings and installations, creating works that speak to the complexities of the mind and human emotions.
Gulnara Fatullaeva (born April 26, 1990, in Abakan, Republic of Khakassia, Russia) is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in painting and installation. She currently lives and works in Paris.
Gulnara graduated from the D.I. Katanov Children's Art School in Abakan in 2005. In 2011, she earned a bachelor's degree in Costume Design from St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design. She continued her studies at the same university, pursuing a master's degree in the History of Costume, and in 2012, she participated in a student exchange program at the National Higher School of Textile Arts and Industry in Roubaix, France, focusing on Innovative Textiles.
From 2017 to 2018, Gulnara studied at the Moscow Institute of Contemporary Art in the Department of New Artistic Strategies (Ilya Kabakov workshop) and completed a program in Art Management and Gallery Business at the RMA Business School. In 2018, she moved to Paris, where she continues her artistic practice.
Gulnara's work often explores themes of childhood trauma, dissociation, and the relationship between the body and consciousness. Her series "Parallel Worlds" (2024) delves into the psychological impact of trauma, using personal photographs and oil painting to depict the separation of body and mind. Her art aims to evoke emotional responses and spark conversations about mental health and psychophysical unity.
Her works have been exhibited in group shows at venues such as the Elektrozavod Gallery in Moscow (2018), Rossini Auction House in Paris (2018), and Art Expo in New York (2020). She has also gained recognition on social media, with over 150,000 followers on Instagram.
Gulnara's art is held in private collections across the UAE, Poland, and the USA. She continues to create thought-provoking pieces that bridge personal experience with universal themes of psychology and human emotion.
