Artistes visuels aériens
Comme l'a noté Léonard de Vinci dans son Traité de la peinture, « les couleurs s'affaiblissent en fonction de la distance qui les sépare de la personne qui les regarde ». Cette affirmation du début du 16ème siècle a ensuite été étayée par des preuves scientifiques montrant que les particules de poussière et d'autres matériaux microscopiques provoquent la diffusion de la lumière lorsqu'elle les traverse. La diffusion dépend ensuite de la longueur d'onde. La lumière bleue, par exemple, est la plus diffusée, ce qui explique pourquoi les montagnes au loin émettent une teinte bleue. En diffusant la lumière, les objets, les personnes et les lieux peuvent être rendus par l'artiste de manière beaucoup plus douce, sans détails intenses ni utilisation réaliste des couleurs. Ainsi, la perspective aérienne présente des avantages certains pour les artistes visuels. Elle offre une vie inédite de l'atmosphère d'un lieu, permettant d'englober une vaste étendue. La vue aérienne est sans aucun doute utilisée par l'artiste pour se concentrer (ou ne pas se concentrer dans ce cas) sur un sujet précis, mais le représenter dans un environnement plus large. Dans les sélections d'Artsper, les œuvres de Slim Aarons et Julia Whitehead offrent des perspectives nouvelles sur des scènes vibrantes de la vie quotidienne et, bien sûr, l'immensité du ciel. Whitehead l'explique elle-même : « Nous sommes familiers avec les scènes de rues animées et bondées, mais nous ne les voyons pas toujours d'un point de vue différent ou ne nous retirons pas de la foule pour pouvoir nous tenir debout et observer. Les formes, les couleurs, les ombres et la dynamique des corps en mouvement, qu'ils soient vus individuellement ou en groupe, constituent une source d'inspiration inépuisable pour l'artiste que je suis ».
