Toyenwas (born Marie Cermínová) a Czech-French painter, one of the representatives of European surrealism. She is an important figure of Czech culture, although she lived most of her life in Paris. She is one of the most important and free creative personalities of the artistic avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century. She worked together with Jindrich Styrsky, and together they joined the avant-garde association Devetsil. In 1925, they went to Paris where they announced their own movement - artificialism, which represented an original alternative to surrealism and abstraction.
