“I had a great chance, I had carte blanche and the confidence of the models".
Jean-Marie Périer neither wasted nor betrayed this opportunity. He even transformed it into a unique work both artistically and historically.
Sylvie Vartan in clogs among geese and ducks, Mick Jagger as a young man in the streets of London (the Salut les Copains era), dreamy Christophe in Luxembourg, Julien Clerc in a hippy mole...
JMP's portraits reflect the singularity of his career, but above all his outlook on life, a life where love, friends and adventures are the key values.
This unique look has given thousands of images. Today we discover them on the picture rails of museums and galleries when they were made for the newspaper or for the walls of teenagers' rooms. Nothing surprising, however, as the work is original. The first major exhibition devoted to his photos took place at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris in 2002. Since then he has exhibited regularly in France and around the world (Los Angeles, Portland, Sao Paulo). In June 2015, La Maison de la Photo, a museum in Villeneuve d'Aveyron is entirely devoted to his photographs from the 1960s.
