Fine line Human form Artworks
It is unsurprising that the line is considered to be one of the most important elements for how an artist creates art. Typically absent of gradient and shading, fine line art is a focus on how distinct, straight or curved markings on a solid background reveal the subject – in this case the human form. So fundamental is the line to the artist that often, as a technique, artists who are studying are asked to provide works where the line is continuous and the hand never breaks from the page. A line is how the viewer follows a work. Albrecht Durer's Melancolia I (1514) reveals an artist who is a true master of the line, providing texture, shape and form to an emoting figure within one of his engravings. Over the next five centuries, artists have been influenced by the power of line and how it can be descriptive, abstract, implied, emboldened and even thinned out. The delicacy of the fine line has a long past, consisting of the ability to create both two and three-dimensional figurative illustrations with subtlety alone.
