Presentation

Born in 1980 in Saint-Etienne, Nicolas Momein lives and works between Saint-Etinenne and Geneva. Accustomed to gestures such as assembling, stacking or nesting in his work, he questions the function of the artist as a producer. He draws his inspiration from craft and agricultural practices to create forms that oscillate between the functional and the sculptural dimension until they reach the point of no use. The materials he uses (horsehair, wool, bulgum...) highlight little considered gestures and techniques and allow for a new approach, more poetic and devoid of function, thus creating sorts of fallen design objects; a mixture between familiarity and triviality. In 2019, he will participate in the 15th Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art and present his piece Bouilleur de savon at the Fagor factories.
