Presentation

Jean Serolle does not paint his monochromes, he sculpts them by superimposing colors.

The layers of materials can be superimposed and the lines multiply, nothing is ever too much: no overload, no saturation because, always, gaps become free, windows open.

Through his paintings, the essential is there: in the gaps, the hollows, the pigments are revealed. However tiny they may sometimes be, it is in them that the depth lies. And it is from them, often, that light springs.
