Claudio Maricato

Claudio Maricato, Franco-Portuguese painter, was born in
1982 in Firminy and lives in St Etienne. 

He has been painting and drawing since
childhood, first self-taught and then supported his pictorial technique with
the artist Marc Maurin. He studied in modern languages, specializing in
linguistics and Hispanic civilization, especially at the University of Granada.
He goes abroad many times, especially in Latin America, without abandoning his
passion for painting which is nowadays impregnated with his travels. 

Son
of Portuguese immigrants fleeing the dictatorship of Salazar, the mixture of
cultures is inscribed in his DNA. Passionate about discoveries and sometimes
reinterpreting History in his works, Claudio finds in foreign customs and
traditions his main sources of inspiration. Hispo-Iberian influence is
omnipresent in his work, through the realization of colorful characters,
expressive and poetic.

It is besides on the beaches of Praia de Quiaios, in
Portugal, that he dedicates himself the most to the painting and that he will,
little by little, develop his artistic universe. Through his works, he seeks to
gather testimony, history and cultural openness while developing a sharp and
modern graphic design.

The intertwining of curves and straight lines allied to
the segmentation of his characters characterize his paintings. The bright,
saturated colors enamelled with fluorescent keys have no other purpose than to
attract the gaze of the viewer.

Claudio does not pretend to convey any message
of a political or philosophical order, his work is above all aesthetic mixing
poetry and allegory. His goal is to transport the public into his universe, at
first candid, but always meaningful.
