Biography

Serge Hélénon was born in 1934, in Martinique. He studied at the School of Applied Arts of Fort-de-France, and then at the School of Decorative Arts of Nice. After living in Africa during 20 years, he returned to Nice, where he currently lives and works.

Serge Hélénon is part of the Vohou-Vohou movement, a pillar of contemporary art in Cote D'Ivore.

Inspired by African creation, Serge Hélénon works with matter, altering flat surfaces, in order to produce unique assemblages, a syntheses of multiple techniques and cultures.

In 1970, Serge Hélénon and Louis Laouchez, a Caribbean artist, created "L'ecole Négro-Caraibe".
