Biography

Than Kyaw Htay is a Burmese artist born in 1978 in Myanmar (Burma). He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Yangon, where he worked under the supervision of famous painter U win Pe Myint, who taught him the art of mastering colors and of composition.

The artist gets inspired by Burmese landscapes and tribes, specially by the Pa O tribe, whose members are very easily recognized by their turbans of very bright colors worn by both men and women. His paintings depict men and women from the back, looking away through a preserved and colorful but empty landscape, a methapor of the political isoliation in which his country has been immersed since 1988.

Than Kyaw Htay exhibits his work regularly in his native country as well as abroad, in Singapore, the United States, Canada and Taiwan.
