Bolaji Akanji

Akanji Bolaji (b. 1991) is a multi-disciplinary artist born and raised in Lagos/Nigeria. His overall practice involves painting, photography, and mural painting. As a full time studio artist, his artistic piece highlights narratives that surrounds Man and his environment in relation to its cultural experiences and to bring forth the aesthetic quality of his imagination into visual consciousness. 

The artist is inspired by nature, music and his contemporaries, thus his stylistic representation is a stylized twist and infusion of surrealism, pop abstraction and contemporary mannerism which he perceived as a lesser known style used to further explore the visual narratives around his African characteristics and features. The exaggerated approach of his painting is to capture the perfect and imperfection of black beauty; exploring the ideal of African beauty in long-neck features alongside its philosophy features and the African psychology of aesthetics.
