Biography
José Joya was a Filipino painter. Born in 1931 he received his MFA in painting from the Cranbrook School of Art, Michigan in 1957.
Joya's impasto artworks and layered compositions are executed in the abstract expressionist style. His vibrant color palette is inspired by the vivid colors found in the native tropical landscapes of Manila.
Joya died in Manila in 1995. A retrospective exhibition of his work took place in 2011 at the National Museum of Manila.
