Presentation

Russian painter born in 1897, son of an officer in the Imperial Russian Army, he was born in Poltava (now in Ukraine) and studied at the Cadet Corps in Poltava, then at the Cadet Schools in Saint- Petersburg, and he took painting lessons between 1912 and 1934 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg. He lived for twenty-five years in the capital of the empire, near the Arsenal and served in the army until reaching the rank of general of artillery.

He became, in 1976, one of the leaders of the Ambulant movement and was nicknamed “the conscience of the Ambulant” for his integrity and his observance of the principles of the movement.

He retired from the army as a major general in 1992 and went to live in Kislovodsk, a spa town in the Russian Caucasus, where he died and was buried in 1998.
