Biography
Born in Pittsburgh in 1984, Jennifer Packer is an American painter, known for her captivating portraits and still life images. She graduated with a MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University in 2012.
The vibrancy of Packer's color palette juxtaposes the gravitas of the subject matter, as she uses her medium to explore representations of the Black body. Rooted in the personal, Packer features her family and friends as subjects, evoking an emotional response.
Most recently, Packer has held solo shows at the Serpentine Gallery in London (2020), The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles (2021) and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans (2021). She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Rome Prize in 2020.
