Presentation
Mark Kostabi is an Estonian painter and composer born in California in 1960. He grew up and studied in this region of the United States, in the State University. In 1982, he moved to New York and in two years, became a major figure of the artistic scene of the East Village. He has been living between New York and Rome since for the past 10 years.
His faceless characters are characteristic of his work. His paintings express the artist's opinion about political, social and psychological problems. Giorgio De Chirico and Fernand Léger are two main sources of inspiration for the artist, which does not limit him from acting freely, on the contrary it pushes him to reinvent.
Mark Kostabi's work is internationally recognized. He exhibits his work in galleries in the US, Japan, Germany and Australia and several institutions recognize his talent and present his paintings. Among some of them we can cite, the Mitsukoshi Museum in Tokyo and the Art Museum of Estonia in Tallinn. His pieces are part as well of permanent collections, such as that at the Guggenheim Museum and at the National Gallery of Modern Art of Rome. Mark kostabi has also made the covers of music albums for a dozen artists, including the group Guns 'N' Roses.
