Presentation

Jurate Mykolaityte's work has no analogues in contemporary Lithuanian painting. The artist's paintings are dominated by a surrealistically redesigned literary narrative based on intellect and intuition, transformed into a "different reality", a detailed drawing, a thin-layered manner of painting, a monochrome color scheme where the relationship between light and shadow is more important than color.

The main "hero" of her paintings is the city. That's obvious. However, it is a fantastic city, where not only the motifs of the native Vilnius, but also the buildings that have sunk into the past and become extinct, turn into visions, dreams, visions and dreams. And every time this "hero" is reinterpreted, giving him shades of personal experiences. Masterfully becoming a reality, by exchanging the properties of objects, juxtaposing real images with illusions, gives birth to "another reality" based on intelligence and intuition.

Here, the visuals (architecture and dreams, real things and theatrical mystery, apocalyptic visions and cozy corners of the interior) strangely intertwine in the visual world and beyond. "
