Presentation

Chittrovanu Mazumdar (born October 13, 1956 in Paris) is a Kolkata artist who has been part of the contemporary Indian art scene for almost three decades.

A series of solo exhibitions of large paintings in Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai, from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s, established its reputation for innovation. His multicultural education in a family of artists and writers in Kolkata and Paris, and his own temperament always in search of something led him to develop a vocabulary and grammar of art that drew on a wide variety of aesthetic, literary and socio-cultural sources and influences.

Having started as a painter, Mazumdar has since explored a wide variety of vehicles and technologies in his work. His art amalgamates the achievements of his multicultural education in Kolkata and Paris and eclectic readings in the three languages - French, English and Bengali. His art is characterized by major changes in style and form, from painting to multimedia environments and sound sculpture. His paintings are exhibited at the New Delhi Gallery of Modern Art and in many private collections in India and abroad.
