Fernando Costa, who signs his works COSTA, is a French sculpturer and welder born on December 29, 1970 in Sarlat (Dordogne).
The son of Portuguese emigrants who live close to Sarlat (Dordogne), he got a job as a stewart on the ship Queen Elizabeth 2 from 1991 to 1993, and then, from 1994 to 1997, he worked for the Trust Strong House, a global chain of hotels and restaurants. In 1998 he left the hospitality industry to devote themselves to his artistic creation. A contemporary art lover, in 1998 he starts recycling road signs. All his pieces are made from old signs that get a new life. He has his studio in Gignac (Lot)1.
Costa's welded panels usually tell stories, with humor, at the crossing of several artistic movements: New Realism, Pop Art and Street Art. Sometimes figuratives, sometimes abstract, his works challenge the viewer through their construction and through the place that the artist gives to colors. His paintings and his wall sculptures are very successful. Costa gives a new life to these urban materials who are both inseparable from our daily lives and part of an universal language. His works are the way he is, both raw and full of subtleties.
