Simple yet profound, the ritual of drawing lines can have multiple meanings. But when practiced long enough, it becomes a partner, an expression, a space for reflection that remains stable despite the chaos outside.
Each line, a moment of stillness, offers a calming presence. It gives time a visible form, reflecting the artist’s clarity of mind. These lines trace an inner journey through countless personal and global crises from country to country, from life in China, through COVID, war, and building a new life in unfamiliar places.
Ode to Lines is Olasyuk Alena’s solo exhibition, spanning works from 2017 to 2024. It is an acknowledgement and appreciation of this simple ritual that remains constant, a capture of her ongoing journey, one line at a time. In this evolving relationship, the artist influences the lines, and the lines, in turn, shape the artist.
Codependency, ritual, obsession, or simple meditation—all at once. This is the ode to lines.
