Presentation

Maurice Edmond Devlaeminck, better known as Maurice de Vlaminck was a French fauvist painter. Born in Paris in 1876, de Vlaminck started painting at 18. Following a chance encounter with painter André Derain in 1900, the two became lifelong friends.

Initially inspired by the works of Van Gogh, Vlaminck developed his own signature style over the course of his career. In keeping with Fauvist tradition, he rejected traditional techniques in his work, utilizing instead intense, unrealistic colors. Vlaminck died in France in 1958.
