Born January 29, 1975 in La Roche-sur-Yon, France Lives and works in Saint Maur des Fossés, France.
Seeking a form of timelessness, the drawings and paintings of Antoine Marquis are the fruit of a culture acquired through contact with the drawings of Gustave Doré and Léon Spilliaert, Franck Frazetta and Philip Guston, but also films by Henri-Georges Clouzeau, Eric Rohmer or Lucio Fulci. His sedimentary images can be read as a set of graphic documents or preparatory drawings for a film that will probably never exist. These documents constitute so many location scouts (or motifs, objects, figures, situations) for an improbable film which would oscillate between fantastic fantasy and a more realistic harshness. Antoine Marquis wants this set to emanate a feeling of candor and violence, of fiery spontaneity and methodical coldness, of drollery and tragedy, between castle life and the foot of low-income housing towers. Between distinguished traditionalism and cheerful resourcefulness.
