Louis Granata was born on December 10, 1901 in Spezzano and died in 1962 - In 1922, the State bought "The Blind and the Paralytic" from him on the occasion of the Colonial Exhibition. But, he discovered oil and then launched into Arab portraits and also painted seascapes. He traveled through the Kabylia of Djurdjura with his friend Charles Savorgnan de Brazza, a remarkable watercolourist - In 1930, the painter won the Dollin du Fresnel prize (known as the Centenary Prize) from the North African Artistic Union. In 1931, he founded the Free Society of Algerian Artists, which later became the Society of Arts and Letters of North Africa - Granata is not French. He wanted to obtain French nationality and for that, he joined the 5th Chasseur (rue Marguerite), from 1939 to 1940. On leaving the regiment, he participated in the Salon des petits tableaux where he was awarded in 1940.

In 1951, Granata will be an Academy Officer for Fine Arts and, in 1956, the city of Algiers awarded him a plaque of honor - His pride was to be cited in the catalog of the Salon of French artists, of which he was a member, who, in Paris in 1960, had ranked him among the greatest contemporary orientalists.

In 1961, at the International Exhibition in Vichy, he won the Public Prize.
