Presentation

Jean-Marc Cerino lives and works in Saint-Étienne. He regularly participates in exhibitions in France and abroad and is represented by the Sator gallery and the Bernard Ceysson gallery. He is part of the editorial board of the review De(s)générations1 and has carried out several projects and editions with contemporary writers and philosophers such as Jean-Luc Nancy, John Berger and Jean-Christophe Bailly.

“In all of his work [sur le blanc], Jean-Marc Cerino questions the human figure and the conditions of its visibility, which he transposes to the visibility of the work itself. His painting is thus worked by an economy of withdrawal and the pictorial process engaged is that of erasure, as if to testify to the feeling of loss specific to the Human Being. ".

Concerning his paintings on glass in “Drawing from the immense reservoir of shipwrecked images, Jean-Marc Cerino, by this recovery, breathes new life into and intensifies the force that inhabits them. The melancholy power at work in this work also acts as a critical rereading – on parts – of what History has left us in deposit and, through Jean-Marc Cerino, it is then the chance of a painting entirely new story."
