Presentation

Born in 1963 in Auvergne, Sylvie Marambert is a school teacher and a visual artist.

Eager for knowledge, she discovered contemporary artists during her higher education and through her numerous readings and visits to museums in France and abroad. Attracted by the bright colors, it is the way of considering painting by the painters of the fauvism like Matisse, Miro, Dufy and Braque which touch her more particularly.

From 2008, she trained in the workshops of artists Massaya and Marie-Christine Sartin in Clermont-Ferrand. Her first works are figurative and focus on representing the female body as faithfully as possible and on bringing out the shapes in dry pastel. Then she switched to a certain rigor with architectural drawings in watercolor and felt-tip pen while bringing her personal touch by applying bright colors to the facades. After a few years, she finds her own style "The abstract figurative" where color and materials become the essential mediums for the interpretation of her perception of reality, far from the observable reality.

The series "Paño mediteraneo" is therefore a very personal representation of the emotions felt in front of piles of fabrics in the factory of Saint Laurent De Cerdans in the south of France. This explosion of colors and sensations remained engraved in a corner of her memory for several years, time of latency, of maturation before being able to express itself on a canvas. She then unveils her works alongside other painters during collective exhibitions in Auvergne but also abroad as in the Ducal Palace in Genoa in July 2021.

For this artist, "Color is an essential medium for creation, it is there to give life to my emotions but it must be thought, reflected. Each color is placed in such a way that it reinforces the previous one, gives it brightness, makes it vibrate in order to find a past visual, auditory or olfactory sensation. But this semblance of rigor must also leave room for chance. When I choose my colors, when I make them overlap and then I stretch them with my spatula, I only control the gesture but not what the mixtures will finally give me to see. The unexpected here is rather enjoyable and never disappoints me."

The paintings in this series are not only to be contemplated from the front, one must look at them from different angles to discover another dimension. Thanks to the fragmentary and strategic application of material with a knife, the light will catch or be reflected by these reliefs, a mixture of sand and acrylic paint.

It is a physical and sensitive experience that awaits each observer, he is invited to become aware of the power of color and light on our emotions.
