"My lifestyle is to look a lot, always, and to question myself about the meaning of my work, thinking that the best is perhaps what will be done tomorrow."
Biography
I have no particular theory concerning painting. For me it is above all a pleasure, a pleasure for the eyes and the mind. My painting is both instinctive and thoughtful. The multiple experiences have sometimes modified my vision of things but I imagine that my background is stable, because the training acquired seems indelible to me.
A person told me recently that my painting reminded him of stained glass. I was sensitive to this observation. Thinking about doing one thing and doing another is a pleasant paradox. I realize that I am not the judge of what I do (I do it, that's all).
A wrestler, a bottle are for me pretexts to paint.
The common background is often gray (hatched or not). This neutral value, which was probably inspired in me by the engraving that I practiced for a long time, allows me to translate the image freely. This image does not deliver any message, has no other claim than to express fleeting or recurring feelings. No message therefore, but the form, the material.
My lifestyle is to watch a lot, always, and to question myself on the meaning of my work, thinking that the best is, let's be optimistic, what will be done tomorrow.
Arno Lanzi is also a theater designer.
