Galerie de Buci is proud to present Porno Barocco, a striking new exhibition by Russian artist Andrei Arkhipov. Through this latest series, Arkhipov reinvents the opulence of the Baroque and Rococo periods, infusing them with contemporary reflections on gender, identity, and the sensual tension between repression and liberation.
Known for his intricate compositions and evocative imagery, Arkhipov’s work bridges historical aesthetics with modern narratives of self-determination. Porno Barocco invites viewers into a world of lavish ornamentation, expressive figures, and an underlying discourse on the fluidity of identity and the balance between tradition and modernity.
“In my work, I combine the aesthetics of Baroque and Rococo with themes of gender identity and self-determination,” says Arkhipov. “Through details, forms, and emotions, I explore the fluidity of identity and the balance between tradition and modernity, the material and the spiritual. My paintings also address the theme of sexual repression, revealing it through sublimation in art as a means of expressing inner freedom and desire.”
Through his meticulous brushwork and symbolic storytelling, Arkhipov reinterprets classical forms with a bold and provocative approach. The interplay of rich textures, dramatic contrasts, and allegorical figures in Porno Barocco creates a dialogue that transcends time, challenging conventional narratives while celebrating the intricate beauty of human expression.
