Biography
Born in 1969 in Burkina Faso, Ousmane Dermé has become a prominent figure in contemporary African sculpture. Since the 1980s, he has mastered the traditional lost-wax casting technique passed down through his family. Working primarily with bronze, his sculptures are recognized for their clean lines and harmonious forms, reflecting serenity, the beauty of movement, and the human essence.
Based in France since 2005, in his Poucharramet studio, he oversees every stage of production, from wax modeling to bronze casting and final polishing. His artistic world explores universal themes such as music, family, couplehood, daily life, and femininity, all approached through a deeply humanist lens.
His works are featured in many public and private collections worldwide. Ousmane Dermé has been an honorary guest at several French art fairs and has received numerous awards, including the Conseil Départemental Prize in Mennecy in 2023. In Burkina Faso, he created the monument to the Organization of African Unity in Ouagadougou, a powerful symbol of cultural pride.
