Presentation
Born in 1973 in Ille et Vilaine, Gaëlle discovered drawing and painting at the age of 14. From an early age, she fed on images, situations, emotions. These moments have developed in her a keen sense of observation. The critical eye to situations. Nothing is left to chance, everything is subject to layout.
For two years she took courses at the Beaux-Arts in Rennes. It was there that she learned the rigor of drawing and differentiated the qualities of each material to express
ideas. It was pictorial exploration.
In 2003, Gaëlle felt a desire to change her way of painting, which prompted her to exhibit. She begins some collective local and regional exhibitions. Its subject is mainly “the human". Through him, his soul, his life, his dreams, his origins, his contradictions and especially his link he maintains with nature. She began with faces, subjects from distant lands.
At the beginning she used gouache then watercolour. Due to its texture, watercolor allowed him to tame fluidity and lightness. Playing with the whites of the paper as one plays with light. The colors could be strong, intense, luminous, warm or cold. But he lacked the feeling of gestural movements. At the same time, she practiced oil painting.
It was during an internship in 2011 that she learned to use oil as a vector of emotions. The oily texture becomes as fluid as water. Work the oil as finely as possible. A well-known work of Italian painting, the glaze. She decides to combine the fluidity of oil, the intensity of colors and her natural lyrical gestures to express emotion.
Today, his work is more intimate and he brings subjects to life in surreal and/or abstract universes. Which gives a poetic aspect and gives a feeling of dream, of lightness to his painting. Its strength lies in the play of colors and the use of the medium which is, mainly, oil paint.
He was still missing one thing. How to express the self or the deeper self of the soul? All he had to do was find themes, stories to tell where the spectator could continue alone, in his intimacy. Appropriate the image and continue to tell the story. Do not freeze the framework in which the image is expressed. Let the gaze, the thought pursue its path freely.
Gaëlle understands that we are all actors and spectators of our lives and those of others. We are interacting. His themes are drawn from readings, films, music but above all from nature, the elements. Often, she declines them in 2 to 4 paintings.
The final pleasure is the feeling that emerges, the brutal emotion or not that overwhelms us
His work as a painter is to pursue the paths already explored and/or to modify their trajectories. Her painting characterizes her, inhabits her and reflects what we live. She swims between the figurative and the abstract.
