Presentation
In his work, Jan attempts to capture the geographical and physical qualities of the elements. The swell lines hitting the sandbars, the wind trying to cling to the water's surface. The natural energies, movements and colors of one's own personal experiences of the landscapes are transformed into an image or visual object.
The tones he experiments with in his landscapes are elusive illusions that emerge through the play of light and the reflection on surfaces.
To capture the elusive in something tangible like pigment or paint, Jan does extensive research into the different qualities of pigments and materials. He currently uses gels as a base combining different pigments, sometimes transparent, sometimes opaque, ultimately influencing the underlying and superficial layers.
