Born in 1957 in Petit Quevilly, Olivier Catté lives and works in Rouen.
Olivier Catté goes for the first time in New York in 1985 where he was immediately fascinated by the energy of the city. However, it is only in 1999 that the artist will decide to use New York as frame of his work. One often finds the same places, but they are never the same, depending on the light or his inspiration.
Architectures, dynamism, noise, speed, urban rhythms, Olivier Catté knows articulate these tensions, New York is an experience that inspires.
During his travels, Olivier Catté search the smallest details that make New York a unique place. He made sketches, notes of ideas, mark the points of view and takes many pictures. The emotions felt are the rest.
Since 2008, the artist worked on the carton of recovery. Without any bonding, it torn, hollow and crucifying the carton to reveal cities (NYCartons, 2011) or of imaginary cites (Interfaces, 2012).
