Marc Dautry is a French draftsman, sculptor and engraver, originally from Gard. At five years old, he sculpted his first animal figurines. At the age of twelve, a visit to the Maison Carrée in Nîmes offered him his first dazzle, with a Gallo-Roman woman's torso, the beauty of which overwhelmed him: from then on his path was traced, he would be a sculptor. A real fight then begins with his father, for whom art is synonymous with perdition. At fifteen, he left his native Gard for Montauban. In 1949 he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse where he skipped the stages, obtaining in two years his first prizes for drawing, engraving and sculpture.
