Neoexpresionismo
Conocidos como más allá de la vanguardia en italiano, los nuevos salvajes en alemán. Surgido como reacción a los estilos altamente conceptualizados y minimalistas que habían dominado la década de 1970, el movimiento neoexpresionista se desarrolló de forma significativa en Estados Unidos, Alemania e Italia, como un renacimiento contemporáneo del primer expresionismo.
El estilo se caracterizaba por un retorno radical al arte figurativo y sensual, a representaciones visuales más reconocibles de objetos y a un uso del color vivamente expresivo que aludía a la decadencia y el consumismo del mundo del arte de posguerra. Las pinceladas de gran textura y las narrativas emotivas eran el núcleo de este movimiento.
La obra de Julian Schnabel, David Salle, Eric Fischl y Jean-Michel Basquiat se asocia a menudo con la proliferación del estilo neoexpresionista en Estados Unidos. Sus experimentaciones texturales, su fotografía comunicativa y su audaz uso del color y la narrativa nos ofrecen ahora una visión indispensable de la trayectoria artística contemporánea posterior a la década de 1970.
En otros lugares del mundo, los italianos Sandro Chia y Francesco Clemente, así como los alemanes Anselm Kiefer y Georg Baselitz, contribuyeron significativamente a este estilo pictórico y compositivo poco ortodoxo.
