Neoimpresionismo
El neoimpresionismo fue un movimiento artístico que tuvo lugar en Francia a finales del siglo XIX. El movimiento nació del rechazo a ciertas características del Impresionismo, como su realismo y la grabación espontánea de la naturaleza para captar la luz cambiante del paisaje. En su lugar, los artistas neoimpresionistas optaron por emplear los principios científicos de la luz y el color en sus obras para conseguir efectos visuales. Por ejemplo, los artistas neoimpresionistas aplicaban la pintura sobre el lienzo en pequeños puntos o trazos de color, que se mezclaban a los ojos del espectador desde cierta distancia para formar un único tono de color. Esta técnica se denomina divisionismo, pero también suele llamarse puntillismo.
Los líderes y artistas más importantes del neoimpresionismo fueron Georges Seurat, a quien se atribuye la producción de la técnica del divisionismo, y Paul Signac. Otros miembros del movimiento fueron Albert Dubois-Pillet, Maximilien Luce, Henri-Edmond Cross y Camille Pissarro. En 1884, los neoimpresionistas crearon la Société des Artistes Indépendants (Sociedad de Artistas Independientes).
