Retratistas abstractos
La imprevisibilidad del comportamiento humano es un terreno abonado para el expresionismo abstracto. Los movimientos repentinos, las miradas breves y las expresiones faciales impermanentes desafían las estrictas leyes del realismo, así que ¿qué tal si nos alejamos de él? El retrato puede describirse como una representación inmóvil, posada y eficaz de la forma humana en el tema del arte figurativo. Pero el ser humano también puede ser dinámico y en estado de movimiento, imposible de retratar durante las sesiones. Al alejarse del realismo y utilizar la luz, el color, las formas y los medios mixtos, el arte abstracto crea movimiento en el propio lienzo, haciéndose eco del dinamismo de la figura, objeto del retrato abstracto. Artistas abstractos como Theo van Doesburg y su obra de 1915 Retrato abstracto utilizan bloques de color y formas para esculpir lo que reconocemos como una figura. Pero la figura está deconstruida y parece moverse y desplazarse en el lienzo. Esperando ver un rostro, el espectador utiliza su ojo para recomponer el retrato y encontrar la figura en la obra. En la actualidad, Shay Mess combina los rostros femeninos con la naturaleza para crear retratos florales, saturados de color y que atraen al espectador. Mientras que Mario Henrique se centra en el dinamismo de la forma humana representando a bailarines y la naturaleza fugaz del cuerpo humano.
