Presentation
Born in 1955 in Colombes. Lives and works in Paris.
Alain Séchas is one of the most prominent French artists on the international art scene. He has exhibited since 1984.
The disciplines he practices are very diverse, ranging from drawing to painting, video and even sculpture. His approach aims to capture reality in the instantaneousness of his movements, in order to make him undergo a work of simplification resulting in an immediately recognizable expression.
In his drawings in or sculptures, the artist repeatedly involves anthropomorphic figures, of which cats are the best known. These characters act out grotesque scenes revealing a rather dark idea of the world behind a biting humor. Between abstraction, fantasy and critical realism, Alain Séchas intrigues and pushes the viewer to confrontation, to questioning his position, while offering a humorous reflection on everyday life.
Since 2009, Alain Séchas has devoted himself almost exclusively to painting. First exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo in 2005 Jurassic Pork II, Alain Séchas returned to the walls of this institution in 2012 for the exhibition Sans Cimaise et Sans Pantalon. His work is preserved by many institutions (MAMCO in Geneva, FRAC in the region, MNAM-Centre Pompidou).
