Paul Bertier likes to combine rigor and sensitivity, conceptual and manual work. Marked during a trip in
Asia by the strong contrast between mass architecture and landscape, where the city appears as a fictonal
space, he examines urbanity and its implementation, its edges, its borders, its horizons. To explore this
imaginary, he builts ambivalent images. Spaces and structures he shows are always in balance, ready to
change, disappear or collapse. He also searches this tension with plastic choices : between realism of
lights and abstraction of surfaces, between sensation of spatiality and physicality of materials. He imagines
his pictures both as tangible objects and projection spaces so that the viewer forms his own story in
these unstable areas, in suspens.
