Pedro Marighella

Pedro Marighella's main interests are looking at cultural, social and historical processes, highlighting the critical potential of entertainment. Master's student in Visual Arts and graduated in Fine Arts at the Escola de Belas Artes - UFBA, he develops projects in visual arts, design and music.

He was part of residencies at the context of ARCO 08 (Madrid, Spain) and of Nam June Paik Award (Cologne, Germany) in 2010 as a member of the collective GIA. Awarded at the 10th Bienal do Recôncavo, was granted a residency at the Accademia de Belle Arti di Brera, Milan. Selected projects include a commissioned work for 3rd Bienal da Bahia, in 2014; a solo presentation at Brasil Contemporâneo section at ArtRio 2018; and other solo and group exhibitions such as A Nova Mão Afro Brasileira, Museu Afro Brasil, 2013, and Axé Bahia at the Fowler Museum (UCLA), in 2018. Selected as one of the 30 finalists in the Marcantônio Vilaça Award, in 2019, he also participated in that group exhibition.

According to Emanoel Araújo, his works reflect “an artist that aims to register the imaginary crowd of a large city, a whirlwind of people who crowd in action, a political metaphor with rhythms, shapes, lines, masses, to speak of the paranoia of a world in growing and desperate transformation ". About his most recent production, to curator Uriel Bezerra “Pedro joins all those who on the beaches, hills and avenues find in fun, in dance or even in leisure a subversion conscious or not of the uses of the urban space. A state in which dream and ruin, culture and barbarism merge".

In 2020, he participated in Drawing Room Lisboa and joined the permanent collection of the Masp-Museu de Arte de São Paulo, with a commissioned work in the context of the exhibition Histórias da Dança.
