Originally from Aquitane, Dominique Mathieu is a French artist born in 1970.
Since an early age painting and drawing played a main role in his artistic production. He joined different schools of art and tried several workshops using living models. But it was sculpture that he preferred and it became its favorite medium.
His work resumes to the exploration of material in all its forms, whether its soil or marbel, nowadays he specializes in bronze. Inspired by the models that he works in clay, he creates piece of a classical style at first and then lets his imagination do its part in a creative approach.
He focuses on movement and lightness, particularly appreciating to play on strong contrasts between density and fragmented material, and bronze is a material that lends itself well for this end. The naked female body remains the main subject of his creations, which he represents in all its curves and voluptuousness.
He obtained a reginal recognition thanks to the multiple prizes in sculpting that he won, such as the First Prize of Sculpture in Talence, Blanquefort and Bordeaux St Augustin.
