Biography
Brent Estabrook is a Los Angeles based painter whose work acts as playful commentary on sociopolitical issues fraught with the unbridled passion of a determined young artist. Estabrook challenges the viewer to reconsider familiar images, products and ideas as he himself explores the liminal space between discovery and curiosity. His appropriation of plush toys from his youth in larger than life paintings endorses his ongoing visual campaign to relentlessly pursue your dreams.
An impulsive decision to pursue fine art after graduating dental school left Estabrook wading in university debt, painting a series of imagined money. The playful compositions of fantasized financial freedom ironically became the force that propelled him into achieving his dreams to become a recognized visual artist.
In his recent works, Estabrook has developed whimsical propaganda for seeking the limitlessness of dreaming in order to engage with an audience's sense of wonder. Various stuffed animals pack canvases with vibrant, familiar textures. Stitched smiles and a recalled warmth embody the essence of an imagined world that is often left behind by the pressures of society. It is the exercise of embracing a child's re-imagination that accompanies Estabrook's rapidly growing career in creating art with the hope to inspire and comfort.
