Born in California, artist Marina Kappos is now based in New York City, where she settled after receiving an MFA (Master of Fine Art) from Yale University School of Art in 1997.
She draws inspiration from the physical characteristics of quantum entanglement, exploring themes of frequency, resonance and connection, which translate into her paintings through a graphic style.
“In a way, I can understand the influence of distant particles on each other because I have an identical twin sister," she explains. “I grew up with a mirror image of myself, but an independent one, leading a life different from my own. This unique perspective has helped establish a deep and lasting bond of interconnection between my sister and me."
Through semi-transparent layers of acrylic paint, his work generates a vibrant optical effect, playing with the limits of different solid forms.
A recurring theme in Marina's work is human connection, particularly that between women; she highlights profiles or hands, subtle yet expressive elements of the human body.
"Where does the body end and the universe begin?" she asks. Her paintings invite us to reconsider our position within our environment, both as physical and spiritual beings.
His work has been presented by numerous galleries in the United States and abroad, including Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
