Inspired by the 1970s

When you hear the first note of an ABBA or Queen song, are you nostalgic for those times gone by? Do you dream of stylish Formica tables complete with Mobil Mugs? The style of the 70's influenced everything from fashion to interior design and art. The major trends were curved edges, geometrical shapes and vivid colours. If you're looking to upgrade the retro potential of your home, this is the place to start. More bohemian than 60's decoration but crazier than the 80's. Seventies decor is right on trend.

Despite its instantly recognisable style, the decade is a combination of many different influences. Why not try an urban geometric style with large-print psychedelic wallpapers and a matching carpet? Add a round table and an egg-shaped armchair, not forgetting the lava lamp...and you're there! Colourwise, it's best to stick to orange shades with hints of green.

Or maybe you prefer a more boho style? Imagine a Californian ranch filled with crochet blankets, rattan chairs and dainty cushions. Don't forget to add plenty of perennial plants and cacti on your shelves. For either style, don't be afraid to go to a flea market to buy furniture, you may well find a great deal.

If you don't want to make drastic changes to your home, you could also change your artistic decoration. There's nothing better than colourful canvases with graphic patterns or photographs of Pink Floyd to get that time machine effect. Of course there was a great explosion of creativity in the 70's. The most famous artistic moments of the time include: Francis Bacon's George Dyer triptych, the first wrapping by Christo and Jeanne Claude, the Broken Circles of Robert Smithson and the first performances by Marina Abramovic. All of whom are not only emblematic of the time, but became household names for generations.

Hence why we're taking advantage of this era on Artsper, by offering you original works created in the 70's, as well as art inspired by this legendary era. All the pieces on offer will certainly give the retro look that you're after for your living room, bedroom or kitchen.
