Biography
Karl Julius Rose (also Antonio Rose, Georg Carré, born October 24, 1828 in Königsbrück near Dresden and died October 23, 1911 in Munich) was a German landscape painter.
Rose came to Munich with her family in 1836. He began an apprenticeship as a sculptor, but soon interrupted it and embarked on an apprenticeship in gardening. Julius worked with his father in the garden of Count Hohenthal's palace.
The Countess recognized his talent and had him copy the paintings from the castle's photo gallery. Rose considered painting at the Dresden Art Academy with Christian Gottlob Hammer. He then undertook study trips to Switzerland and Italy.
Rose mainly paints high mountain landscapes and Scandinavian fjords.
His seascapes with fishing boats in the stormy waters of the North Sea or the Mediterranean are also characteristic.
Rose often signed his works with his pseudonyms "Antonio Rose" or "Georg Carré" in different variants (Caré, Carée, Carré).
