Roberto Díez

He studied law at the University of Oviedo. Since the 1st Young Art Exhibition (1984), organized by the Ministry of Culture, he has made numerous solo and group exhibitions. In 1999 he participated in the sculpture workshop given by Martín Chirino at the Marcelino Botín Foundation. In 2005, in the workshop organized by Sudoh Gallery in Odawara (Japan).

He has collaborated several seasons in the program La estación de Avignon, by Eugenio Castro on Radio Círculo, FM station of the Circle of BBAA in Madrid. He currently collaborates with the publication FrA, of the Ramón Areces Foundation.

My goal is to build simple and meaningful structures, through the creation of dialogues between the material elements that surround me, including waste and the remains of other events.

I am used to this end of elementary strategies such as juxtaposition, collage and assembly. Wood, paint and paper are the main basis of work. My procedure is decidedly experimental and manual.

All this allows me to consider the possibility of metaphorically linking any record with a heterogeneous one: memories, figures, materials, traces, feelings, colors, concepts, remains, discourses, scales and almost any other. And thus it will save its mythopoetic possibilities.

Therefore, I share poetics with cubisms, constructivisms and poveras, and I find a particular similarity with the attitude of the do-it-yourselfer spoken by Lévi-Strauss because, thus, I intend to elaborate objects as concrete answers to the need that causes Reflection on a uncertain and heterogeneous reality. Fragmented as the one that crosses an urban, complex and contemporary world.
